For October Movie Club, we will be discussing the Girlhood (2014) by Céline Sciamma.

This film is streaming on Kanopy, a public library and university-based service accessible for anyone who has studied or used library services across 53 countries (though primarily in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or New Zealand).

We are screening this film ahead of INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL, as ascribed by the United Nations, which takes place on October 11.

Summary: Oppressed by her family setting, dead-end school prospects and the boys law in the neighborhood, Marieme starts a new life after meeting a group of three free-spirited girls. She changes her name, her dress code, and quits school to be accepted in the gang, hoping that this will be a way to freedom.

This movie club will be held Sunday, October 11 at 9 am PST // 12 pm EST // 5 pm BST // 9:30 pm IST
